DEROSITAS Survey

Survey Aim

eROSITA is the primary instrument on-board the Russian Spektrum-Roentgen-Gamma mission (Merloni et al. 2012) and will be used to scan the whole sky in the X--ray band. With a sensitivity 30 times better than the ROSAT all sky survey in the 0.5-2 keV energy band and an angular resolution of $\sim 25$", the 4-year survey will enable the selection of $\sim10^5$ galaxy clusters out to redshifts $>$ 1. This large cluster sample will allow a broad range of cosmological and astrophysical studies, and put very stringent constraints on the cosmological parameters of the Universe.
However, the X-ray sample can only be fully exploited when combined with optical imaging, which (a) provides optical confirmation and counterparts to the X-ray detections; and (b) allows the estimation of photometric redshifts, which significantly increases the sample's cosmological constraining power. Providing photometric redshifts to the eROSITA collaboration, to enable a wide range of science topics, is one of the goals of this proposal.
The DECam eROSITA Survey project (DeROSITAS, PI Dr. Alfredo Zenteno) is a joint effort between scientists from Universidad de La Serena, Universidad de Valparaíso, the Cerro Tololo Inter-American Observatory (CTIO), Gemini Observatory, and the German eROSITA Consortium, to carry out joint scientific analysis using eROSITA X-ray data and multi-wavelength data, mainly optical imaging data obtained with the Dark Energy Camera (DECam) at 4m Victor Blanco Telescope at CTIO..
